Bill Hicks Online Newsletter Autumn 2008 Welcome to my first newsletter of 2008. I look forward to continuing to keep you up to date with news and views from the fascinating world of jewellery.
It has long been a tradition for a woman to receive a gift of an item of precious jewellery from her husband or partner to celebrate their baby's birth. On a recent visit to the United States I was interested to learn that it is becoming increasingly fashionable for the jewellery to feature a combination of diamonds and coloured stones, especially sapphires, in pink for a girl and blue for a boy.
Diamond stud earrings, pink or blue sapphire or diamond pendants, and stackable diamond bands are also recognised as appropriate pieces for this occasion, whilst a band featuring the new baby's birthstone is another increasingly popular option. A complete list of birthstones can be found on our website at http://billhicks.com.au/birthstone-calendar.php
Scientists have recently discovered the oldest diamonds on earth in Western Australia. Formed just 300 million years after the birth of the planet itself, the diamonds are estimated to be over four billion years old.
Mother's Day, which this year falls on Sunday 11 th May, is almost upon us. If you are thinking about buying something more than the usual box of chocolates or bouquet of flowers as a gift, why not consider a simple white gold, diamond and coloured stone pendant that would be ideal for everyday wear. The example shown here features peridot and retails at $2,000 including the chain, but there is a fantastic array of other coloured stones available within a similar price range.
I thought you would like to see the end result of a fascinating commission I recently completed for one of my clients. The multi-stone cocktail ring primarily consists of diamonds and emeralds, but also features, opals, sapphires, pearls and mother of pearl. I really enjoyed working with my client on a very open brief that required the finished piece to be “flamboyant” and “out there”; something that we both feel has been very successfully achieved. I would be delighted to have the opportunity of working on further commissions where truly the only limit is one's imagination.
If you have not visited our website so far this year at www.billhicksjewellery.com.au you will be interested to know that we have recently made some additions and improvements which I hope you will like.
They include the updating of our Jewellery Gallery (see http://www.billhicksjewellery.com.au/jewellery-gallery-sydney-australia.php ) to make it more “user friendly”, the adding of information on caring for your diamond, coloured stone, pearl and opal jewellery, and the inclusion of a comprehensive Glossary of Diamond terms (see http://www.billhicksjewellery.com.au/diamond-jewellery-glossary.php ). If you have any suggestions on further additions you would like to see please drop me an email or call me on 0419 484 287.
Regards,
