A member of the family of gemstones called corundum, the finest colour sapphire is a rich velvety cornflower blue, though they come in a wide spectrum of colours including yellow, orange, gold, pink, green and purple. Sources include Sri Lanka , Thailand , Laos and Australia . Long considered the symbol for truth and certainty it was believed the Ten Commandments were engraved on sapphire tablets.
